Congratulations to Kelsey F., grade 5, from Cornwall, NY and Jessica W., grade 7, from Dayton, KY—the national grand prize winners of the "Influenza Ambassador Award Contest"!!
Take a look at their winning PSAs below:
Kelsey and Jessica have each won a $15,000 COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP and MACBOOK COMPUTER for their public service announcement (PSA) advertisements, which creatively illustrate the serious risks associated with influenza and ways to help prevent its spread. Most importantly, both winners learned that, each year, they can make a difference and help protect many lives by getting vaccinated against influenza.
Don't forget, Flu Fighters, you can still help to spread the word about influenza and become and Influenza Ambassador. It's YOUR turn to help keep your families and communities healthy. The best way to do this is by teaching those around you everything you have learned about influenza.
Spread the Word—NOT the Flu! is a nationwide educational program, brought to you by Novartis Vaccines, together with Families Fighting Flu, Inc. and Weekly Reader Corporation Custom Publishing, designed to teach students in grades three through eight and their families about the seriousness of influenza and the importance of receiving an annual vaccination. Through this program, children can make a difference by helping their families and communities learn about influenza and how to prevent its spread.
Spread the Word—NOT the Flu! consists of a detailed curriculum, created by Weekly Reader, that teaches students about influenza facts, such as how the virus spreads, what its symptoms are and who is at risk for potentially serious complications. This program aims to empower children to help prevent influenza and its spread in their homes and communities.
